Looking into the children of David Deverson Douglass' marriage to Mary Scott.

Firstly, for their son Frederick Donald Douglass b.1914, I believe that he married but I'm not sure that he had any children.

From the marriage records ...

Name: Fredorick (Frederick) D Douglass
Registration Date: Apr 1937
Registration Quarter: Apr-May-Jun
Registration District: Barnet
Inferred County: Middlesex
Spouse: Jane Renner

From the 1939 Register ...

Name: Frederick D Douglass
Gender: Male
Marital Status: Married
Birth Date: 14 Mar 1914
Residence Year: 1939
Address: 595 Honeypot Lane
Residence Place: Harrow, Middlesex, England
Occupation: Fitter Assemble
Line Number: 3
Schedule Number: 65
Sub Schedule Number: 1
Enumeration District: BIIC
Borough: Harrow
Registration district: 130-2
Inferred Spouse: Jane Douglass

The date of birth here matches up perfectly with the UK, World War I Pension Ledgers and Index Cards, 1914-1923 records found previously ...

Name: Frederick Donald Douglass
Birth Date: 14 Mar 1914
Relation to Soldier: Children
Title: WWI Pension Record Cards and Ledgers
Description: Other Ranks Died Douglas A-Dowbiggin L

From the birth records ... (Frederick's wife)

Name: Jane Renner
Mother's Maiden Name: Smailes
Registration Year: 1913
Registration Quarter: Jul-Aug-Sep
Registration District: Morpeth
Parishes for this Registration District: View Ecclesiastical Parishes associated with this Registration District
Inferred County: Northumberland

From the death records ..

Name: Frederick Donald Douglass
Death Age: 86
Birth Date: 14 Mar 1914
Registration Date: Mar 2000
Registration District: Newcastle Upon Tyne
Inferred County: Tyne and Wear

Name: Jane Douglass
Death Age: 75
Birth Date: 18 Aug 1913
Registration Date: Jun 1989
Registration District: Northumberland Central
Inferred County: Northumberland

Therein, it appears that Frederick and Jane relocated to Jane's native part of the world at some point after marriage.

Then, for their daughter Irene Sarah Douglass b.1917.

From the marriage records ...

Name: Irene S Douglass
Registration Date: Apr 1939
Registration Quarter: Apr-May-Jun
Registration District: Barnet
Inferred County: Middlesex
Spouse: Frederick Reeves

From the birth records ..

I believe Irene and Frederick had at least 4 children:-

Name: Frederick Reeves
Registration Date: Apr 1943
Registration Quarter: Apr-May-Jun
Registration District: Pancras
Inferred County: London
Mother's Maiden Name: Douglas

Name: Douglas F Reeves
Registration Date: Apr 1944
Registration Quarter: Apr-May-Jun
Registration District: Pancras
Inferred County: London
Mother's Maiden Name: Douglass

Name: Barbara E Reeves
Registration Date: Apr 1947

Mother's Maiden Name: Douglass

Name: David J Reeves
Registration Date: Apr 1951
Registration Quarter: Apr-May-Jun
Registration District: Pancras
Inferred County: London
Mother's Maiden Name: Douglas

Something I spotted that was particularly nice, was in the family line of Barbara.

From the marriage records ...

Name: Barbara E Reeves
Registration Date: Jul 1967
Registration Quarter: Jul-Aug-Sep
Registration District: Brent
Inferred County: Greater London
Spouse: Alan F Hutcheon

From the birth records ...

Name: Julia Ann Hutcheon
Registration Date: Jan 1969
Registration Quarter: Jan-Feb-Mar
Registration District: St Pancras
Inferred County: Greater London
Mother's Maiden Name: Reeves

Name: David Deverson D Hutcheon
Registration Date: Jul 1971
Registration Quarter: Jul-Aug-Sep
Registration District: Portsmouth
Inferred County: Hampshire
Mother's Maiden Name: Reeves

Name: Angela Marie Hutcheon
Registration Date: Oct 1973
Registration Quarter: Oct-Nov-Dec
Registration District: Portsmouth
Inferred County: Hampshire
Mother's Maiden Name: Reeves

Did you spot it? Yes, the name of Christina Kathleen Olivers (b.1875) husband, David Deverson Douglass (b.1878), who was killed in action on 22 Sept 1917, has been passed through the generations to a great-grandson - I like that a lot.

Here the latest tree diagram:-

Hot on the heels of Jane's recent talk about those from the Oliver family tree that have emigrated, I think I've located two more now, from this family line.

The Western Australian Museum has erected something called 'welcome walls' details of which can be found here:

http://museum.wa.gov.au/welcomewalls/

Its say.

'More than one third of Western Australia’s population was born overseas. The Welcome Walls projects pay tribute to those migrants who arrived by sea, landing at Fremantle or Albany, and to the many benefits they gave to their new home, enriching the lives of all Western Australians.

In Fremantle, over 400 panels commemorating the names of migrants who arrived through this area have been erected at the WA Maritime Museum at Victoria Quay.'

Within those name detailed on the wall I found Donald and Pauline, detailing their emigration in 1958, per the below:

http://museum.wa.gov.au/welcomewalls/names/salmon-pauline-brenda

I also located an entry on the Find a Grave website for Donald David Salmon

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/213724512/donald-david-salmon

The Australian link then also led me to this helpful page, although looks not to have been updated since 2008:

When her husband David was Killed in Action on 22nd September 1917, it left Mary with two step-children, David, around 16 years of age, Christina, around 15 years of age, Frederick around 3 years of age and Irene, at just 5-6 months old.

Interested to know how life progressed for Mary, I searched for marriages in the Barnet area and was able to locate the following:

From the marriage records ...

Name: Mary Douglass
Registration Date: Oct 1926
Registration Quarter: Oct-Nov-Dec
Registration District: Barnet
Inferred County: Middlesex
Spouse: Frederick Copping

To then try and verify this as the correct Mary I searched the 1939 Register and found ..

Name: Mary Copping
Gender: Female
Marital Status: Married
Birth Date: 16 Nov 1877
Residence Year: 1939
Address: 80
Residence Place: Finchley, Middlesex, England
Occupation: Unpaid Domestic Works
Line Number: 20
Schedule Number: 123
Sub Schedule Number: 2
Enumeration District: BGCL
Borough: Finchley
Registration district: 131/3
Inferred Spouse: Frederick Copping

Although 1 year out, the day and month of birth matches perfectly with the UK, World War I Pension Ledgers and Index Cards, 1914-1923 records found previously ...

Name: Mary Douglass
Gender: Female
Birth Date: 16 Nov 1876
Residence Place: East Finchley N 2.
Relation to Soldier: Widow
Title: WWI Pension Record Cards and Ledgers
Description: Other Ranks Died Douglas A-Dowbiggin L

Furthermore, living just next door is her first husbands father, David Deverson Douglass b.1856, captured as 'old aged pensioner, retired'.

Then, from the death records ..

Name: Mary Copping
Death Age: 93
Birth Date: 16 Nov 1875
Registration Date: Apr 1969
Registration Quarter: Apr-May-Jun
Registration District: Brent
Inferred County: Greater London

Again, a year out versus other records but month and day spot on, so looks likely to be the right Mary.

From census and marriage records we can see that David Deverson Douglass, son-in-law of Herbert, was a long serving Postman by occupation and in his late 30's when he signed up for the war effort he joined the London Regiment (Post Office Rifles), 8th Bn.

Battalion: 8th (City of London) Battalion (Post Office Rifles)
Regimental Number: 375547

From the Find a Grave website ..

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/12321462/david-deverson-douglass

A picture of the war grave can also be seen here:-

https://images.findagrave.com/photos/2005/341/12321462_113410145878.jpg

There are several interesting and informative internet sources with details and pictures about the 'The Post Office Rifles', including the below link with an extract from the website

https://www.postalmuseum.org/collections/post-office-rifles/

'To accommodate the swell of recruits in the First World War, a second Post Office Rifles Battalion was formed in September 1914. They were titled the 2nd/8th Battalion

The 2nd Battalion initially served as a reserve regiment, supplying reinforcements for the 1st Battalion but in January 1917 the battalion also moved to the front line in France. They first saw action in the Second Battle of Bullecourt in May 1917.

The Post Office Rifles fought at the Somme and at Passchendaele (Third Ypres) and suffered tremendous losses. More than half of their fighting force was lost at the Battle of Wurst Farm Ridge in September 1917.'

There is the following death record, but this Herbert appears to match well with another family (Spouse: Emily Oliver (nee Tedham) Children: Herbert Oliver, Percy Oliver, Jesse Oliver, Albert Oliver, Emily S Oliver, Kate Oliver), so this doesn't look to be 'our' Herbert.

Name: Herbert Oliver
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1847
Registration Year: 1898
Registration Quarter: Jul-Aug-Sep
Age at Death: 51
Registration District: Hastings
Inferred County: Sussex

So pictorially this branch of the tree starts to look like this:-
