Hi All, I have had access to some old family photos, within this collection was a postcard of the Salvation Army Band. Looking at the picture it looks like it was taken after the First World War as some of the men have service ribbons on their uniforms. Also I have pictures of my grandfather in his Salvati...

On Radio 4's A Good Read last week Rich Stein's choice of book was Lifting the Latch by Sheila Stewart and this prompted me to get my copy off the shelf again. A friend recommended this book to me many years ago and I was captivated from the beginning. It's the life story of Mont Abbott who lived and worke...

Did anyone see the new Findmypast TV Series? I was disappointed. Usually the programmes about the War on Yesterday are very good but the three people involved in the first of this series didn't seem to be particularly interested in what they were being told. I also can't believe that they had no ide...

Does anyone have any advice on transferring colour slides onto a PC? I've got hundreds of slides and I'm wondering whether it is best to get one of those gadgets that transfers slides and negatives to a PC or whether a scanner with the slide attachment is better. Or - is there a way I can transfer them to m...

Does anyone have any knowledge of military uniforms? I'm attaching a photo which I found in the 'suitcase' of photographs inherited from my Mum. I have no idea who this man is but think it could be my Grandfathers brother (not an Oliver). I think the photo may be a mirror image as the buttons seem to be o...

The Computer swallowed Grandma. Yes, honestly it`s true. She pressed `control` and `enter` and disappeared from view. It devoured her completely, the thought just makes me squirm. I'd forgotten all about this little poem until I found it when looking through an old autograph book that belonged to my Mum dated 1926. Dirty Charlbury was pronounced - dirty Chor Berry.
