What’s the difference between DAX and M in Power BI?

DAX is primarily for data analysis and in the data model, so measures, calculated columns, and calculated tables are created using DAX. DAX is performed on the loaded data and is written to perform quickly, so it has fast aggregations and time intelligence functions, along with row level logic in your visualizations and dashboards.

M, on the other hand, it the is the language used in the Power Query Editor prior to data loading into a model. With M, a developer can clean, reshape, and combine data from several sources. M is a powerful functional programming language and is excellent for cleaning your data, filtering rows, merging tables, or splitting a column.

If you are looking for a solid base of knowledge on both DAX and M, I highly recommend joining a Power BI Course in Pune. If you want to use a base skill for designing dashboards that are efficient, responsive, and tailored to the end user, then it is important to have a solid knowledge of foundation of context and base skills of DAX and M.

If you looking for deeper skills and experience, then enrolling in a Power BI Training in Pune allows developers to work with real-world projects, while developing advanced DAX calculations and performing several complex data transformations using M. This hands-on experience is essential for applying end-to-end Power BI development.
