Thank you for your reply, it was lovely seeing a picture of Mary Oliver (nee Davis). This is the first picture of a sibling of my 2 x Great Grandfather (William Davis) that I have seen. It is quite interesting that she has dark hair, a trait that still exists in the Davis family today! I would be very interested in seeing any more pictures you have of Mary and her family, if that is possible. Let me know if you obtain a copy of this picture.
I will add a new post regarding the information I have about Mary, so others can comment and correct or add any information they have.
Welcome and thanks for joining the messageboard here and posting.
Very interesting to read of your connection. The branch of Richard Barrett Oliver and his wife Mary (nee Davis) has certainly been one that we have been learning lots about within the last year to 18 months. You may have seen in amongst the content of the website an article under the 'Facts and Happenings' section titled 'Built by Olivers on Oak Bay, Canada', I think this will be of interest to you as this includes just some of what we know.
It's a shame we are not back this time last year, as in September last year we held a (3rd) Oliver Family History Day in Stonesfield where descendants of Richard and Mary from the US, Canada and Stonesfield all came together for the first time and one of the key parts of the day was sharing what we know of the story about Richard, Mary and their descendants.
Here indeed is a screenshot from the day where I was lucky enough to be able to share a photograph of Richard and Mary, with their great-grandchildren - a lovely moment. I will contact the person who owns the picture and ask if I can add it to the Photo Gallery here on the website so you can see it more clearly.
Would certainly love to hear more about the family of Mary - look forward to talking more!
My name is Mervyn Davis, my connection to the Oliver family is my 2nd Great Grand Aunt Mary Oliver (nee Davis) who was born in 1845 and married Richard Barrett Oliver. I know that they moved to Oak Bay, Vancouver Island. That is where my information for Mary finishes. I would like to know a little more about Mary's life and descendants in Canada. If anyone can help it would be very much appreciated. Likewise if anyone would like to know my about Mary's early life and family I would be more than happy to share this information.
