Thanks Shane - what a find. I could spend hours looking through a book like that. Margaret doesn't seem to have paid her 'dues' but there is nothing written in the the arrears column so perhaps she still has time to pay. Do you know if this is the only Rate book still in the archives or are there earlier and later books?
You're right, I've been through the Stonesfield parish records soo many times, and yes, I've jumped over that record for Margaret every time too! - but you're also absolutely right, I often flick back through books or records I've been through many times before because as we keep building the picture and adding new pieces to the jigsaw all the time so often things that seemingly had no relevance a couple of years back can jump out with interesting links and new meaning - it happens all the time - we'll never reach the end of this research you know, its a life's work for us all!
On the topic of Margaret and the Finstock Oliver, I wondered if you've seen this before?
It a Finstock rent collection log/book from 1839, its at the Oxfordshire Records Office.
It includes Maragret, brother in-law Thomas Oliver, and sons of Thomasm Edward and John.
Not sure if anyone else is interested in the James Oliver/Margaret Temple Herbert line but I've just come across some information about Margaret which I thought I would share.
Browsing through the Stonesfield Parish records I noticed a baptism entry for Margaret Tempero Herbert baseborn daughter of Mary 3rd February 1799. I'm assuming that a Mr. Tempero was her father. Lots of Tempero's in the Great Milton/Thame area and around Banbury but not West Oxfordshire. Mmmm...another mystery.
I've been trying to find information about Margaret for the past 14 years without any success - just shows how productive a little bit of idle browsing can do!
Shane you've probably been through the Stonesfield Parish records a million times - did you know this about Margaret?
