Welcome!, Welcome!, Welcome!, so pleased you decided to join the message board here.
The story of Ambrose and his family has been quite a tough one to trace, with all his moving around with the Ordnance Survey.
It took quite some time to crack where they were in 1911, until we found them in Ireland, and of course that also identified a number of additional children that were not on the 1901 English census.
Tracing those children through into adult life and on to current day descendants is also proving very difficult, which is why it was so great to link up with you.
So there is plenty of work for us yet on this branch I think! - though there are certainly a good few descendants from Edwin here on the board, which are of course pretty close cousins to you in the context of this huuuuge Oliver Family tree.
My name is Anne Holmes, nee Oliver. I have only recently discovered this amazing web site thanks to correspondence from Shane who found me on Ancestry.
My great grandfather was Ambrose Oliver, born in Brecon in 1863. His son William Henry was my grandfather, born in 1888, also in Breconshire. Both he and Ambrose were Surveyors with Ordnance Survey. My father Gilbert was born in 1909 in Carlisle where my Grandfather was working at the time. The family moved around a bit and eventually settled in Southampton where I was born. My father also worked for Ordnance Survey, as did two of his brothers.
A family member has traced a direct line back to Edward Oliver born in Stonesfield in 1634. I hadn't realised just how many Oxfordshire Oliver's there were (and still are), many still in the same area. I have just discovered some great aunts and uncles who were unknown to me.
I have one brother and he has 3 grandsons, so our line of Oliver's is continuing.
I am quite new to family research and am enjoying reading all about my ancestors. I would love to find out more, especially any direct descendants of Ambrose or his father Edwin who was born in Stonesfield in 1826.
