As time and history moves on, history of the past comes to us in the most unusual way.
Via Shane, I have been contacted by Henk Penders of Dieteren Netherlands, whose father fought in WW11 for the liberation of his town and country from German Occupation.
When researching his town for those who fought and died, forces from UK, USA and Canada, he has created a web page story for his town and during his research found my Father.
He has done a very good job researching my Father and even discovering the name OPERATION BLACK**** an operation from three sides to force back the German Army and indeed our forces went into Germany who gave surrender.
Wow, thanks for sharing all the additional information and pictures Christine, wonderful to see the different pictures of your Dad through his life - the last one made we wonder if it was taken at Roseberry Topping perhaps?, as I know that quite close to Hartlepool.
If its OK with you I'm going to make a little 3 picture montage for the website gallery of your Dad through the years - and he certainly does have big hands and fingers like his grandfather, amazing resemblances between them.
Thank you also for bringing his medal and cap badge on Sunday, it was a privilege to hold them a show them to the group (aka, your family!)
I have pictures of the battle in which my father was involved in supplied by a very helpful gentleman some years go who runs a website dedicated to his relative but also to the Durham Light Infantry.
So sorry for not spotting your two posts sooner - thanks so much for sharing these - hope its OK with you but I have promoted Corporal Frederick to the website gallery, hopefully he'll enjoy being up this with all of his Oliver cousins!
