Hi Marie,
No, there is nothing 'hairy' or 'scary', but establishing Heron/George/Aaron's parents, and therein the connection to the web of Stonesfield Oliver's is now cracked - you're definitley one of us
I'm out at the moment but will post tomorrow.
Thanks
Shane
Please post it here if you wish :) Unless, there is some hairy business going on!!! LOL. You can always write to me privately at: mgaffneyus@hotmail.com.
Hi Marie,
I've been looking into your family line today and can certainly see how you've come to a stand-still, the correct certainly records don't jump out - however - after much head-scratching I have made a break through!
Soooo, would you like me to share what I've discovered here? (I don't want spoil things for you if you wanted to eventually crack the clues yourself ).
Let me know
Thanks,
Shane
Thank you for taking the time to respond to me. I am hoping someone can shed some light on George & Sarah My research has come to a stand still.
Ray's Father, Heron George Oliver, died when Ray was 4 years old. I think it would be great to present him with the Oliver family history and have him visit the village of Stonesfield.
Good to have another new member. Everyone seems to be out enjoying the sun at the moment but keep checking the messageboard as I'm sure someone will have some information for you on George and Sarah Oliver. They are not on my branch of the family tree but Shane will almost certainly know more about them.
If you've never been to Stonesfield I can tell you that it is a lovely village in West Oxfordshire famous for providing stone slates which you can still see today on many cottage roofs and on the Oxford colleges and for its gloving industry. On the census records you will see that most of the women in Stonesfield were gloveresses.
Good luck with you research
Bye for now from a very warm and sunny Oxfordshire - Linda
I am trying to put together my brother-inlaw, Raymond Oliver, family tree. His Father's name was Reginald Victor Oliver b. 29 Jul 1909 at 303 Rockery Road, Handsworth, West Bromwich. Reginald (Reg) was the son of George Heron Oliver and Rosa Oliver (this is how the parents are listed on the actual birth certificate).
According to the 1911 census, George Heron is recorded as "Heron George Oliver" born abt 1882 in Stonesfield, Oxon. His occupation is listed as Bootmaker - Repairer. This information corresponds with the birth certificate where the occupation listed is "Bootmaker Master".
I was so happy to stumble across this website and find information pertaining to Heron's Father and Mother (George and Sarah Oliver). Does anybody have any additional information regarding this family in Stonesfield?
