Hello Shane

I've not (yet) been able to find a death for Augustine and this makes me think that they may have left the country.  What happened to them is a puzzler.  One of many on this branch of the family.

I did pay for the marriage certificate.  I didn't know Ancestry had certificates on-line.
I don't have Ancestry, I have a full subscription with Findmypast but they don't have this facility.  I've got quite a few general questions to ask about Certificates so I'm going to start a new topic - soon.

Thanks

Linda

Hi Linda,

I see, 'both of full age', umm, that's unhelpful.

In the absence of any immediate trace of Augustin in any post 1841 census I thought I'd try and look for an Elizabeth Oliver, born x, year x, however we've nothing to fill those 'x's with at present.

There is the information about her father George, so potentially there is a Elizabeth Buckingham, with a father of George in the 1841 census, if she is still at home and recorded on the same census - I'm sure there are lots of Elizabeth and George Buckingham however.

Even then the 1841 census doesn't include birth place, only a field for 'born in same county' and then on top of that of course the 1841 census had the age rounding as well, though it would help with a little narrowing.

I'm just having a look at deaths of Augustin Olivers, with it being a relatively uncommon name there shouldn't be too many, perhaps then there may be a corresponding Elizabeth Oliver who dies in the same area - long shot maybe.

Umm, much scratching of head at the moment!

Just on an aside - did you pay for your Augustin and Elizabeth marriage certificate? - reason for asking, and you might already know this, and you might already have access to it depending on your type of Ancestry subscription, but I seem to recall that thousands of London Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates are available to view online as part of the ancestry subscription - I've certainly download several in the library I do know that, but my standard ancestry subscription here at home doesn't allow me.

For anyone looking at lots London Certifcates its probably worth knowing though.

Okay, bye for now.
Shane

Unfortunately, no ages on the certificate just 'both of full age'. Augustine was born around 1824-26

Have no clues about Elizabeth Buckingham.  There are several Buckingham families in West Oxfordshire but she could have come from anywhere.

Thanks

Linda

Hi Linda,

Just a couple of questions so I might be able to try help out with the search!

1 - What were Augustin's and Elizabeth's 'ages' are on the 1848 marriage certificate?
and
2 - Do you know where Elizabeth was born? have you found her birth registration etc

Thanks,
Shane

I'm just adding more to my previous post.

I have asked for help with this before and received lots of advice from Jane but I'm still stuck with both the reason for Augustine's crime and what happened to him.

I now have a copy of his marriage certificate and I am sure it's the right Augustine as he states his fathers name as James Oliver.  His wife is Elizabeth Buckingham, fathers name George Buckingham.  They were married in Paddington by banns so must have been living in London at the time.  They both have the same address - Hall Park.  They could have emigrated I suppose but I've not yet been able to find them listed on any passenger lists.

Also, at the Family Day in Stonesfield, someone briefly said to me that she was also researching Augustine but, unfortunately, I didn't get chance to talk to her again.
I am wondering if she is a member of the messageboard and could contact me.

Thanks - Linda

On the 1841 census Augustine Oliver aged 15 is shown to be in Oxford Prison.  I have not been able to discover what crime he committed.   I have tried Jacksons Oxford journal without success.  Can anyone suggest where else to look?

There is also one of those spooky coincidences attached to this story  -  I have been researching my husbands family recently and discovered that his Gt. Gt. Grandmother, Eliza Dalton from Henley on Thames, was in Oxford Prison at the same time as Augustus.  They are both listed on the 1841 census.  Eliza's case was reported in Jacksons Oxford Journal - she had stolen clothes and then sold them.  Oh dear.

Bye for now - Linda

PS I have tried the Black Sheep publication booklet with prisoners photographs but this doesn't go back as far as 1841.  Fantastic booklet - worth looking at even if you don't have criminal ancestors!
