I read that Shane!!. I do click on every day. As you say I am busy with other things. `Other things` at the moment is the Holifield Family of Finstock. Granny Oliver was a Jane Holifield, daughter of Mark. She is as important to me as the Olivers - it takes two to tango......

Oxford quests for information about the Belgian Refugees in Oxford during 1914/18 have drawn a blank. So John`s Grandfather has been `put to bed` for a while. No reply from Bodleian Library and Ruskin could not help. Other routes, I need a Library Card. So a serious re-think is taking place.

Nothing to do with Olivers/Holifields, but the history of the Belgian Refugees is a bit spooky too. John`s 2nd cousin was placed as a refugee with a family in Osney. I am 99% certain the family was named Squires. If it was this family, then she would have been placed with John`s Grandfathers niece without knowing it. (The Antwerp side of the family were not in contact with the London/Oxford side of the family and would not have known of each others existence). My interest in the records of the refugees is to prove this point.

One step forward and two steps back is progress in Genealogy!!

Regards, Irene

Hi Kay,

Great to see you here on the message board and thanks for your note on the 'Family Day', really pleased you enjoyed the day and picked up some new information about the Oliver's that came before us.

Yes, I'm pretty sure we'll have another one - watch this space.

You Aunty Irene is one of the regulars here on the board but she has been a bit quiet of late, her witty dittys are missed - she must be progressing well with that travel book or chasing down John's roots over in Holland wink.gif

Also, thanks to you post, now I now what the 'R' in Derek R is too!

As I always say, if there's anything you'd like to ask about Oliver history feel free to pop it up her on the messagebaord and someone will hopefully be able to help.

Speak soon, thanks again,
Shane

Hi Linda,

Yes, I agree completely, wasn't it soooo fantastic to see more than 50 Oliver descendants from right across the family all together enjoying the family history (the good and the not so good bits - i.e. naughty Olivers!).

So many people have send notes saying how much they enjoyed the day so I'm really pleased it was a success, and thats largely due to that people took the time to come along and participate.

Also, I couldn't belive that Mrs Wickson was your sister, I soooo remember her from when I about 5 or 6 visiting my Great Aunt Milly and Uncle John - small word - brilliant!

Okay, speak soon,
Shane

Thank you Shane for all your work in organizing the Family Day.  It was fantastic.  Your presentation of the family tree was so interesting incorporating so many facts, stories, photographs and much more.  Thanks to the guest speakers too, Jane and Shaun, they gave excellent presentations full of interesting facts, stories and information on how to find out more.  It was also great to see so many members of the Oliver family from different branches of the tree and also to catch up with so many from my own branch.

A great day - thank you.

Linda
