Thanks for your offer of the Family Tree and your notes (28 pages phew!) I think I'll pass on the offer for the moment as I'm in danger of information overload. I will probably come back to you for more info later. Jane has given me several ideas on how to track down William A's father so that will keep me busy for a while.
I was in the middle of sorting out all my notes on my Dad's side of the family when I suddenly found myself typing in Olivers of Finstock and then up came this website. I think you and Shane were sending out thought messages.
I've been to Combe this evening for a walk by the river. Lovely.
Hello Linda, I too am an Oliver. Father from Finstock but I was brought up in Combe, now living in Colchester.
Your Augustus William/William Augustus has been causing me problems. I knew (I think) where he slotted into the tree but dates and marriages etc. did not tie up. Some of this has now been explained....
If you would like a copy of my line and also a copy of my working notes on the Finstock line just give me your address and I will post things on to you. Too much to e.mail (28 pages).
By now Shane will have got his teeth into things and I am sure things will happen!!
Hello, I'm another new member linked to the Oliver's of Finstock, Stonesfield and Combe. My maternal Grandmother was Elizabeth Oliver, daughter of William Augustus and Elizabeth Oliver.
I live in Oxfordshire and have been researching my family history for about nine years. I have three cousins also researching the Oliver's, one lives in Coventry, one in Leicester and one in Australia. I have passed details of this website to them. Unfortunately, not all of them have computers at home but I hope they will be able see the website somewhere. We share our information and between us have pieced together quite a lot of our Oliver family history. We do have a few mysteries still to solve and I will cover these in separate postings.
Alongside family history I am also interested in family traits, dialects and local words and phrases, coincidences and general local history. I am hoping that Shane will allow discussions on these topics even though they are not strickly Oliver related.
Just a little more information here. My fathers brother Jack died the same year he was born so that left my father as the only surviving child of May Oliver (Field)
We have been trying to find this side of our family for 81 years and we made a breakthrough yesterday. My father was the second son of May Oliver, He is Gordon John Field born in 1928. May Oliver died a few days after giving birth to him and for over 50 years he was not told that his step mother was not his real mother. My father is still alive and he is over the moon with this news.
Just wanted to say hello to our long lost relatives!!!!
