I have been taking another look at the message board and I realise I am replying to something posted a good while ago. However I would very much like to hear from any descendants of Edwin Oliver. John Mark was my great great uncle, brother of my great grandfather Ambrose. My grandfather William moved away from Wales and eventually settled in Southampton where I live. My father was Gilbert Oliver, eldest of William's four sons.
I've just recently added an article to the 'Facts and Happenings' section of the website regarding the roots of the Welsh Connection if you'd be interested in taking a look.
I think you may have solved a mystery for me. My grandfather always said his mother was Welsh and so far I have only got to Oxfordshire! We always presumed she was actually from Wales so I was puzzled when I started researching. I will have to delve a little more now and this has helped me.Thanks.
Yes, by my reckoning we now have 3 descendants of Edwin on this message board; 'paulrich', 'Jackie' and now yourself - fabulous!
It was really interesting when I travel up to Llangynidr just a few weeks back, right on the spot so to speak of where Edwin and his family lived throughout the second half of the 1800's.
I hope we manage to make some more new connections for you too!
I'm Val , and am connected to the " Welsh" branch of the Oliver family . My maternal grandmother was Winifred Oliver ,born in Llangynidr ,daughter of George and Emily , - so niece of John Mark , which makes me a fairly close relative of Jacqui ?
Winifred married Harry Poole in 1903 and my mother Mildred was born in1904 . There was another daughter Elaine , born 1924 who is still alive today , living in Cwmbran.
I hope this will be of interest to some of the " clan "!
